Making Progress on 2-3 Important Things Over 6 Months

Over the course of 10 sessions, we partner together to:

  • Session 1: Identify 2-3 substantial goals that you want to work towards. In the first session, I’ll ask a series of questions to help solidify these 2-3 goals, making sure they’re truly important to you, and important to work on now. You’ll identify key aspects or elements that you think should be covered in the subsequent nine sessions, as well as what success will look like at the end.

  • Sessions 2-4: Outcome, awareness, action steps and highlight. I follow the COACH Model, which starts by connecting, then understanding what you want to work on in the session. From there, you can expect me to ask questions to help you with new awareness, then that new awareness can help you unlock action steps that you may want to pursue. I’ll check in on your highlight from the session, which is an adult-learning way of helping you review the session and summarize the most important thing you want to remember. You’re always in the driver’s seat and I’m the co-pilot giving prompts along the way.

  • Session 5: Check-in on progress on the 2-3 goals. At about session 5, we’ll spend a little time at the beginning checking in on the 2-3 goals and evaluating how it’s going. I’ll look for feedback on how I can better support you as a coach, as well as what’s working/not working. Then we’ll flip back to using the flow from sessions 2-4.

  • Sessions 6-9: Continued coaching.

  • Session 10: Review progress, action steps from here, feedback and celebrate! Coaching doesn’t have to end here, though. Many people choose to restart the process on another 2-3 goals.

Here’s a selection of tools I pull from, so you have a preview:

  • Lean Startup - a framework that starts with clearly defining the problem at hand, exploring potential solutions, then systematically de-risking or “testing and learning” to make decisions through experimentation

  • Somatic Exercises - tuning into your body through guided meditation, physical movement and more

  • Assessments - completing an assessment like DISC or bringing past assessments that you haven’t fully mined for insight and using that to gain new awareness

  • Metaphor - using images to give language and codify insight beyond the verbal/cognitive, often bringing richer awareness than simply talking about things

  • Inquiry - identifying your own list of questions that are driving tension or disorientation

Short-term Consulting Engagements

I take on a limited number of consulting engagements because I love to learn, and I also love to see what I’m learning applied for good. These engagements are usually time-boxed (ie. under 15 hours in a given week) and typically fall under these areas:
